John McNicholas: Guitar, Bass & Ukulele Lessons

Learn Guitar by Playing Your Favorite Songs 🎸

Looking for fun, personalized guitar lessons in Atlanta? I believe the best music lessons combine practical music theory, technique-building exercises, and — most importantly — the songs you actually love to play. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced player looking to improve, my goal is to help you build confidence on guitar while learning your favorite music faster.

Each lesson is designed to improve your rhythm, chords, strumming, songwriting, ear training, and overall musicianship in a relaxed, encouraging environment. From classic rock and indie to pop, folk, and alternative music, we’ll work on the songs and styles that inspire you most.

Music should be fun. Joyful. Creative. That’s what great guitar lessons are all about.

How Much Are Lessons?

I offer Weekly, Flex and Single lessons at Maple Street Guitars in Atlanta, GA. Lessons are also available online via ZOOM/Facetime, etc…

WEEKLY: Reserved for the same day/time each week.

  • 30 minute lessons: $40 each: = $160

  • 60 minute lessons: $80 each = $320

Payment Policy: Payment is due before your first lesson. Your monthly rate is based on four lessons per month from September through May. You can schedule one make-up lesson each month, subject to availability. Please refer to my cancellation policy below.

5th Week Policy: In months with a 5th week lesson, there’ll be no lesson, giving you an extra week for practice!

Summer Lessons: Students can continue with weekly lessons or switch to single-lesson bookings during June, July, and August. Weekly lessons may be challenging to commit to over the summer, so single-lesson booking is convenient. Payment in advance reserves your lesson day and time.

If you want to reserve your Fall lesson day and time, pay for two lessons per month. This saves your spot and provides me income, ensuring I’ll be available for the school year’s start! You may transfer these lessons and your preferred time slot to someone else during this period.

Payment is due on or before the 4th lesson:  To secure your scheduled day and time for the next block of weekly lessons, payment must be made on or before the 4th lesson. If payment is not received by the 4th lesson you could lose your reserved spot. This helps ensure commitment and keeps the schedule organized for both the instructor and students.

Cancellation policy

A 24-hour notice of cancellation is required for lesson credit. If you cancel the lesson with less than 24 hours' notice, you will forfeit the cost of that lesson. The make-up lesson must be taken within 30 days of the missed lesson. Schedule permitting. This can be handled by extending the length of a lesson or by coming on a different day.

In the event that I need to cancel a lesson, it will be rescheduled. I will generally inform you well in advance, but in the case of illness or emergency, I will notify you as soon as possible.

What instruments do you teach?

  • Guitar, bass, ukulele and songwriting coaching.
